New Days in Midgard Stories

It took eleven years to write Days in Midgard: A Thousand Years On, but most of those stories entered my mind in the first three of those years. After the big rush at the beginning, I was starting to wonder if those were the only such stories I'd get to tell. But that turned out not to be true: in mid-2008, some new stories started to appear. I told four of these at the 2009 Pantheacon in San Jose CA. Three of these are currently without names. If you were there to hear them told, perhaps you have suggestions to help me fix that. If I use your suggestion, I'll happily include your name and a Thank You in the preface of Days in Midgard: Two Thousand Years On, should I actually get enough stories to fill another book. This is looking likely. Meanwhile, you'll probably have a chance to hear them before you can read them, which is the way it should be for a storyteller's work.

Unnamed #1

In Sweden some time around 900, Alfhild and her son stroll through the fields around their village. She recounts her life to him, and tells him again about Ansgar: the father he barely remembers; the husband she has no wish to forget.

Unnamed #2

Tryggve Tryggvason is a man with a plan. He's a professor of archaeology at the University of Uppsala, where he studies ancient burial mounds. Some of the local children call his most recent research site Alfhildshöjd, while others call it Ansgarshöjd. When he sees those two ravens sitting on top of it, he stops to remind himself that he's not superstitious.

Unnamed #3

Teddy is Tryggve's research benefactor, and all he wants in exchange is Tryggve's shipping address. When one of Tryggve's plans goes up in smoke, Teddy and his employees have to deal with some things that weren't in any of Teddy's plans either.

Paint

A very young man takes up the spray can and goes out to make his mark on the world.

Other Stories In The Works

Unnamed #4

Remember the tilesetter from An Honest Day's Work? He's back to tell you about a nice blonde woman that he and his wife met on their way out to the roadhouse one evening.
(Yes, Electra: here she is.)

Nightlife

In an Icelandic winter, a young woman gives birth to twins... alone. This is the story that was left out of Days in Midgard: A Thousand Years On, but not because it isn't a good story.

Two Thousand Years On

This one is still taking shape. Meanwhile, let its title give you a hint.
